Travelling to New Zealand from the UK

British passport holders can normally visit New Zealand under its visa waiver rather than applying for a visitor visa. That does not mean travelling without paperwork: waiver travellers are still expected to hold a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before they board, and a visitor levy is normally payable with it.

Our New Zealand services cover both sides of that: making sure visa-waiver travellers have the right pre-travel authorisation, and preparing full visa applications for UK residents who hold other nationalities or who are going for longer than a visit.

Routes we support

  • Visa-waiver travel and the NZeTA. We confirm whether your passport qualifies for the waiver, help you request the NZeTA through the official channel, and explain how the visitor levy is paid. Airlines check for it before boarding, so it needs to be in place before you fly.
  • Visitor visas. For nationalities outside the waiver, or for stays and purposes it does not cover, a visitor visa is applied for before travel.
  • Work visas. Most work routes are tied to an accredited employer and a specific job offer. We help you and your employer prepare a consistent evidence pack.
  • Student visas. Applied for once an approved education provider has offered you a place.

Entry rules can change, so always confirm the current position for your situation on the official GOV.UK New Zealand entry requirements (opens in new tab) before you book.

What we help with

  • Confirming whether you travel on the waiver or need a visa
  • Requesting the NZeTA through the official channel and checking the details match your passport
  • Completing visitor, work or student visa applications accurately
  • A pre-submission review of your evidence pack for completeness
  • Drafting a clear cover letter and supporting documents

What to prepare

  • A passport valid well beyond your intended stay
  • Confirmed onward or return travel
  • Evidence of accommodation and sufficient funds for your trip
  • For work or study: employer, sponsor or institution paperwork

Requirements differ by route and can change, so we will give you a precise list once we understand your plans. Eligibility rules are set by Immigration New Zealand, and the decision rests with them — we make sure your application is well prepared and clearly presented.

When you are ready, contact us with your nationality, travel dates and the reason for your visit, and we will confirm the right route and start your application.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a visa to visit New Zealand?
British passport holders normally travel under New Zealand’s visa waiver for short visits rather than applying for a visitor visa. Travellers of many other nationalities do need a visitor visa arranged before travel. We confirm which applies to your passport.
What is the NZeTA?
The New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority is a pre-travel authorisation that visa-waiver travellers and most cruise and transit passengers must hold before boarding. It is not a visa, it is requested online in advance, and a separate visitor levy is normally charged alongside it.
Is the NZeTA the same as a visa?
No. It only permits travel under the visa waiver and does not extend the time you are allowed to stay. If your purpose or intended stay falls outside the waiver — for example to work or study — you need an actual visa instead.
I want to work or study in New Zealand. What do I need?
Work and study are handled through specific visa categories, usually tied to an accredited employer or an approved education provider. We help you identify the right category and prepare a consistent, well-evidenced application.
Can you guarantee my New Zealand visa will be approved?
No. The decision rests entirely with Immigration New Zealand. We provide application support, document checking and guidance so your application is complete and clearly presented.
