Travelling to South Africa from the UK
British passport holders can normally visit South Africa for short stays without a visa. Our South Africa visa services are mainly for UK residents who hold other nationalities and do need one, and for anyone travelling for work, study, family or retirement.
South Africa is unusual in how firmly it applies its documentary rules at the border — particularly passport validity, blank pages and the paperwork required for children. A trip that is otherwise visa-free can still be refused on those grounds, so the checks matter as much as the application itself.
Routes we support
- Short visits (tourism and business). For nationalities that need one, a visitor’s visa is arranged before travel through the South African mission. For visa-exempt travellers we focus on the passport and supporting-document checks that decide whether you are admitted.
- Work visas. Several categories exist depending on whether the role is employer-sponsored, in a critical-skills field or intra-company. We help you match the right one and prepare the evidence.
- Study visas. Applied for before travel once an institution has accepted you.
- Family and long stays. Relative’s visas, spousal routes and retired person visas cover longer stays with family or in retirement.
Entry rules can change, so always confirm the current position for your situation on the official GOV.UK South Africa entry requirements (opens in new tab) before you book.
What we help with
- Confirming which route suits your trip and checking current eligibility
- Completing the visa application accurately
- Checking passport validity and blank pages against the current rule
- Confirming what any children travelling with you need to carry
- A pre-submission review of your evidence pack for completeness
- Drafting a clear cover letter and supporting documents
What to prepare
- A passport valid well beyond your intended departure date, with unstamped blank pages
- Proof of your travel purpose (bookings, invitation, enrolment or employment details)
- Evidence of accommodation, onward travel and sufficient funds
- For children: full birth certificate and, where relevant, parental consent documents
- For work or study: sponsor, employer or institution paperwork
Requirements differ by route and can change, so we will give you a precise list once we understand your plans. Eligibility and entry rules are set by the South African authorities, and the decision rests with them — we make sure your application is well prepared and clearly presented.
When you are ready, contact us with your nationality, travel dates and the reason for your visit, and we will confirm the right route and start your application.
